Biasanya di hari Imlek pasti ada kue-kue dan Mie panjang umur yang hmmm yum! Ya, setidaknya ada 12 masakan dan 12 kue-kue yang ada di meja makan pas hari Imlek.

Angka 12 melembangkan 12 Shio, yaitu: -Ma (Kuda)

Makanan-makanan di hari Imlek punya makna tersendiri. Misalnya Mie yang melambangkan umur yan panjang, atau kue lapis legit yang bermakna rezeki yang berlapis-lapis. Selain kue-kue dan mie, biasanya juga ada jeruk-jeruk yang segar yang punya makna pembawa rezeki.

Di malam imlek, ada raksasa bernama Nian. Itu lah yang dipercayai orang dahulu. Makanya orang-orang memanggil pemain barongsai, berdoa, membunyikan petasan, membunyikan gong, dan menakuti Nian dengan warna merah.Nian adalah raksasa yang jahat. Makanya orang-orang berusaha mengusirnya.
